Summary
Before the days of organized health systems, Black Southerners had a tradition of natural medicines and preventative treatments made from native herbs and plants. Those practices diminished as our families migrated North, but never completely disappeared. Some chose to reclaim our traditional healing practices, creating a revival of using natural medicines for common ailments.
Participants will learn the natural remedies and preventative measures handed down from our foremothers. This course will cover traditional herbalism with an emphasis on Gullah Geechee preparations, natural healing as an ancestral practice, and how to incorporate those principles into our modern lives. The hands-on course will include ingredients and instructions to create your own natural tonic for the fall and winter months.
